Hello! My name is Rou Xin Chen, and I have been given the honour of serving as President of MSSA 2018/2019. My job consists of overseeing the ExCO and MSSA as a whole, making sure we're running as efficiently as possible to better serve our community! This year, I'm blessed with a great committee. Together, I hope that we can achieve MSSA's potential to its fullest by providing a variety of opportunities to our members. Beyond work and studies, I enjoy a range of things from baking to binge watching tv series, but most of all, I enjoy getting to know more about people. So, please don't hesitate to approach me if you have any queries about anything, or even if it's just for a chat!
Hello everyone,
To all incoming freshers, current members and interested parties, welcome to the University of Bristol's Malaysian Singaporean Students' Association (MSSA)! MSSA is a well established cultural society in Bristol for many decades, having a reputation of being an open, homely and inclusive community that allow our members to feel at home even away from home.
Our tight knit community of about 400 members and our active network of alumni are a testament to the strong bonds created through the MSSA. This year, we strive to provide even more support and opportunities to our members by providing a platform for our members to feel incorporated, but also seek opportunities in their lives through the many events that we have every year, be it incoming freshers or current students. We have a lot in store for the coming academic year, so do keep a close look out for us!
We hope that the MSSA will provide our future members with great opportunities and experiences as great as as the MSSA has provided for the past members.
Rou Xin Chen
President

The most accurate description of me would be “that one non-Law student with the wacky hair colours”. I kid, and as accurate as that gets, I am a driven biochemistry student here, thriving on a full schedule mainly consisting of labs and table tennis trainings.
As the Malaysian Vice President, my aim is to unite and represent the voices of Malaysians studying here in the University of Bristol. I’ll also be working alongside Justin and Rou Xin closely to ensure the smooth running of this association. As a Malay proverb goes: "bukit sama didaki, lurah sama dituruni". No struggle of being abroad will be left for you to deal with alone, and the same would go for all joys the society will encounter.

Malaysia Vice President

Everyone knows that first impressions are important and as Freshers you form your first impression of MSSA during Orientation. With Orientation being my primary responsibility, I endeavour to ensure every single one of you experience Bristol, university life and MSSA the best way possible. My personal vision for MSSA this year is to see it progress further towards becoming a wholly inclusive society, regardless of nationality and individual disciplines. If I seem unapproachable, I promise you that I am not. Underneath my straight-face and hard exterior I am quite a dork and am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Singapore Vice President

Hello everyone, I'm the General Secretary for MSSA. As secretary, my responsibilities revolve around paperwork and membership affairs. I'm glad to be of service. As I've stated I will be responsible for membership affairs so please do let me know if you have any problems, even if they aren't MSSA related. You may not see me often as I'm probably holed up in my room, eating and watching Netflix, but feel free to contact me through Facebook. However, on the off chance you do see me, please come and say hi!

Hi everyone!
My name is Emily and I'm a second year law student. During my free time (whenever I'm not trying to catch up on lectures or burying my head in the readings), I like to binge watch television series and discover new music. As MSSA's treasurer, my responsibilities include ensuring that all transactions are clearly recorded and that each event has a reasonable and sufficient budget to keep everyone happy! I hope that the events we host will interest the members with a range of interest, and be able to provide a platform in which members are able to form social bonds. Nevertheless, I hope that MSSA will be able to become a home away from home for our members. Do say hi if you see me around, I would love to meet you all.

Greetings! Anis here and I’m your PR Representative :) If eating good food or doing sports makes you happy then that’s already one thing that we have in common. You can definitely catch me at the weekly MSSA Netball trainings and if you ever bump into me, do say hi! If you have any cool restaurants or shops in Bristol that you like to go to, tell me and I’ll try to negotiate some discounts. Essentially, I hope MSSA can be that group of friends you can fall back to so yes, approach me if you have any worries or problems and ask away!

I’m Tristan and I’m the Social Secretary of MSSA. You can usually find me in my room sleeping, having a couple pints with my mates at a bar (cos I’m british ye), partying, or skateboarding at College Green. I am occasionally in the library! As Social Secretary, I’m here for you all the time, especially when you want to unwind or have some time off from your work to party. There’s nothing better than a great time with your friends and I’m here to make it happen for you. Let me know if there are any events you guys want specifically and we’ll work our magic. Look forward to the upcoming events because they will be the ones you remember!

Hellooo friends! My name is Jinnie, your sports rep for the year 2018/2019. I am currently studying law (and will hopefully survive 1st year to tell the tale). My main role is acting as a liaison between other such Malaysian and Singaporean societies in universities across the UK. I will be providing updates on any upcoming sports events for the academic year so stay tuned! I also ensure all the sports activities are carried out smoothly and encourage as many of you to join in! :)) Please let me know if you have any other activities that you would like me to organize and I will TRY MY BEST to carry them out to the best of my abilities huhu. The only sport I can do is netball and I love eating toast with anything. You can normally find me hermitting in Beacon or in Wills so please come over and say hi if you see me!

A foodie with Fernweh, I’m Franco and no, not related to James Franco also no, not related to the Spanish dictator. My aim as editor is to create a more interactive platform, be it through the termly newsletters or even the Accommodation Guide. If you’d like to contribute a piece to the newsletter, or have some great ideas but lack execution, drop me an email! Don’t let your university degree interfere with the flow of your creative juices.

In my free time you can find me curled up in bed with a good book, a good movie or good music. I believe that good and effective communication sets the foundation for strength and cohesion in a community. I aim to create a conducive and inclusive environment for open and accessible communication for all past, present and future MSSA members. Part of my job is to create and capture all the good (and embarrassing) moments and I look forward to being part of immortalising every single one of your university experiences with MSSA.
